Treking in Annapurna region is Nepal’s most popular trekking route according to the survey. The small kingdom Mustang is on of Mustang, closed to westerners until 1992, is an enchanting land of windswept vistas, red walled monasteries, and feudal towns. This tiny kingdom was not only a major corridor of trade from the 1400's to before the Chinese occupation of Tibet, but also figured importantly into early Buddhism in Tibet.
Local legend tells the tale of the great founder of Tibetan Buddhism, Padmasambhava (Guru Rimpoche), who before building Samye (the oldest monastery in Tibet) came to Mustang to stand guard against and do battle with the evil powers out to destroy Buddhism. The temple of Lo Gekhar in eastern Mustang was built by Padmasambhava after his triumphant battle and still stands guard today.
Mustang trekking trails goes across the vast Kali Gandaki riverbed, up over windswept passes at 14,000 ft. and across the 'Plain of Aspirations' to the walled capital city of Lo Manthang. All this through a landscape of indescribable vastness and beauty, home to the famous snow leopard, the endangered jharal (blue sheep), and the mythical mehti (abominable snowman). Rimmed by 20,000+ snowcapped peaks and bathed in hues of orange and red rocks with sporadic fields of vibrant green, yellow and red of barley, maize, and buckwheat, Mustang is a step back to a simpler time.
The Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs provide an impressive backdrop as you trek up the Kali Gandaki river valley to the ancient city of Lo-Manthang.
Trekking itinerary: 14 Nights / 15 Days
Day 01:
Receive you in the kathmandu airport. Then transfer to your hotel " Planet Nepal Bhaktapur" . If you have time couple of hrs sightseeing around Bhaktapur typical Nepali local houses. At the evening time trekking briefing. 0 / N.
Day 02:
Drive / Fly to Pokhara. Around 6 to 7 hrs by tourist bus. Then transfer to Hotel "Greentara". (B, L, A)
Tsarang “ Big Chorten (3620)-Lo (Dry)-La (3860)- Lo Manthang (3730)
Day 08:
Lo Manthang. Rest day / exploring the jong Gomba by Horse riding and back to Lomangthang
Day 09:
Lo Manthang Namgel Gomba and back to Lomangthang
Day 10:
Lomangthang – Syanboche
Day 11:
Syangaboche – Chhuksung
Day 12:
Chhuksung – Kagbeni .
Day 13:
kagbeni – Josoom. Confirm the flight to Pokhara. If you have time, hike up to Mustang Eco Museum
Day 14:
Early morning fly to Pokhara and transfer to Hotel. If you have a time, couple of hours sightseeing in Devi's fall, Gupteswor Mahadev cave, Tibetan refugee camp on request.
Day 15:
Drive by Tourist Bus / Fly back to kathmandu. Transfer to hotel Planet Bhaktapur for Overnight stay.
